Think Walker from Dad's Army or a 1950s Del Boy. If you wanted to buy or sell goods there were of questionable provenance or quality, Summerskill was your man. Respected by the people but reviled by the authorities, he was curiously necessary. He kept the wheels on the black market cart until legitimate commerce caught up.”
