In the 1970s, I had a brainwave. I would sketch an image, screen print 100 copies, then partially hand-paint each one slightly differently in watercolour to give each one its originality.
Commercially, they were a success and sold well as although they were original art, they were much faster to produce than my traditional oil paintings, so I could sell them cheaper, opening up my work to a wider audience.
The problem was that I got bored painting the same image many times, so it was a short-lived venture.
Still, I’m glad some have survived the half-century since.
