Joe Scarborough Signed Art Print Last Wedding on St. Kilda
This is an exclusive signed print taken from an original painting of 'Last Wedding on St. Kilda' by the famous Sheffield artist Joe Scarborough.
“One of my two favourite works. A tale of harsh history with a sad ending.
For 4000 years a community had survived on this forbidding Scottish Island, living mainly on the Fulmars and Puffins. Over countless generations, the men were swung on ropes from the cliff tops to gather eggs and birds from the cliffs, so much so they evolved a tensile big toe to help them grip. By 1930 the population had dwindled to just 36 and with such a small gene pool, the colony became unsustainable. The final residents were transferred to the mainland on board the HMS Harebell, seen in the top right of the painting.
St Kilda is the only Mixed World Heritage Site in the UK.”
